Job Description

Job Summary:

The Clinical Dietician Specialist provides medical nutrition therapy and evaluates effectiveness of treatments.


  • Assesses patients for nutritional status. Provides interventions/treatments including diet therapy, counseling or specialized nutrition supplements.

  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing and ancillary services such as speech pathology or physical therapy.

  • Monitors tolerance and effectiveness of nutritional regimen and recommends therapy adjustments as necessary.

  • Provides nutrition information for the community that may include public speaking, news releases and other forms of publications.

  • Interviews patients and significant others and assesses eating habits, lifestyle, education needs and/or specific nutrient needs.

  • Evaluates appropriateness and effectiveness of alternative feeding modalities and monitors throughout the hospital stay.

  • Acts as resource to other members of the health care team on implementation of nutrition care plan. Educates patient and significant others on practical program to integrate necessary modifications into lifestyle.

  • Participates in department quality improvement activities, such as chart audits and at least one other project.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • May be required to be "on-call."



  • Required Credential(s):

  • Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist specializing in Nutrition Support credentialed from the Texas Department of State Health Services obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

  • Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist specializing in Nutrition Support credentialed from the Commission on Dietetic Registration .

  • One or more of the following:

  • Certified Advanced Advanced Certification specializing in Nutrition Support credentialed from the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (NBNSC) .


  • Bachelor's Level Degree

  • Bachelor''s degree in nutrition, food service management or related field and Five (5) years clincal experience to include four (4) years in speciality is required.
