General Notes

Work schedule is Wednesday to Friday 1p-10p and Saturday 12p-9p. Sunday to Tuesday off. Work days, area and work hours may vary based on the needs of the Unit, and University Housing and Dining (UHD). Selected candidate must provide verification of education and/or experience. Nine month position, 32 hours per week.

Additional Information


Provide for the receipt, disbursement and recording of cash payments in food service operations within University Housing and Dining (UHD). Assist in restocking and set up of operation. Provide exceptional customer service.

Essential Functions

  1. Greet customers and process customer transactions including cash, credit cards and meal plans. Accurately identify food items, portion sizes and meal combination packages. Provide excellent customer service 2. Assist with the orientation and training of new part-time and student employees. Serve as a lead worker / resource when on duty with part-time employees. 3. Restock cashier supplies. Assist in restocking shelves and coolers. Ensure all HAACP logs are completed as required. Ensure front of the house is crisp and clean and all areas are fully stocked including coffee, grab and go coolers, condiments and napkins. 4. Clean and close dining area; including cleaning tables, emptying trash, cleaning any equipment as required. 5. Complete paperwork related to cashier operation; including transfer of funds reports, closing reports, cash reconciliation sheet and deposit envelopes.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. 1 year experience as a cashier handling cash transactions; including receipt, disbursement and recording of cash or credit card payments. Experience providing excellent customer service. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Current University Housing and Dining employee. More than 1 year experience as a cashier handling cash transactions, including receipt, disbursement and recording of cash or credit card payments in a large scale operation. Experience with Housing and Dining cash handling policies and procedures. Experience working in Food Service establishment. Experience working in a team environment and training others. Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to receive, respond and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers and coworkers. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communications and customer service skills with a professional demeanor. Have and maintain a ServSafe certification or Travis County Food Handlers Permit required.

Pushing, pulling and moving up to 50 pounds. Lifting and moving up to 35 pounds. Must successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
