TEXAS JUVENILE JUSTICE DEPT Cook III in DALLAS, Texas

Performs complex (journey-level) food preparation work. Responsible for all food services, including the preparation of breakfast, noon, and evening meals; follows standardized menus. Responsible for the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen. Provides instructions to staff/students in food preparation and storage. May be responsible for preparing requisitions. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position is required to work different shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed, and is subject to being on call. REQUIREMENTS: Required: Experience in food preparation work. Must possess an accredited food handler license, or successfully complete an accredited food handler training course within 60 days of hire. Preferred: Six months of commercial food service experience. High School Diploma or equivalent. This position is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug testing and any offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results from a drug screen conducted for the agency. KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of quantity food preparation techniques and procedures. 2. Knowledge of modified and calculated diet preparation methods. 3. Skill in cooking and baking and in the use and care of food preparation appliances and equipment. 4. Ability to interpret and follow recipes. 5. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations. 6. Ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions. 7. Ability to meet local Department of Health standards, including possessing or obtaining within 60 days of hire, an accredited food handler license. 8. Ability to train others. 9. Ability to complete any required agency training, which may require travel. 10. Ability to work overtime and different shifts, including weekends. 11. Ability to physically perform duties.
